Tessellation

A tessellation of a flat surface is the tiling of a plane using one or more geometric shapes, called tiles, with no overlaps and no gaps.

Most Discworld stamps issued have been rectangular, together with the desirable triangle.

Then in the past year, two unusually shaped stamps have been issued, the Unseen University One Penny (shs0430), kite shape, and the Uberwald 60 bizot coffin (shs0455), irregular hexagon, have been issued.

The major issue with tessellating stamps is that the perforations go from one side of the sheet to the other preventing many layouts.

This got me thinking about which other shapes could be used for stamps. I came up with two; the regular hexagon and the regular octogon.

The hexagon is quite efficient but the octagon leaves a large amount of non-stamp space.

Are there any other shapes that can be used for stamps?
